The concrete wall holds back the soil from the rail line below and protects the area in times if flood. This fig seedling has discovered a crack and is desperatly trying to grow.

Ok, I get it: a dry harsh landscape and a "little engine that could" plant busting out of a crack. I think that a backdrop without a diagonal angle would add more to the front of the image. It is the first thing I see when looking at the pic. DOF and focus are right on. Nice color contrast as well.

interesting composition, though, i'm sure you're getting nailed for not meeting the challenge by all those who think of poverty as it relates to humans...you know, 'the state of having little or no money and few or no material possessions'

Is the plant poor? Or the pipe? This would fit in 'Hope', 'Plant', 'Tough life'. but 'Poverty' ? well it doesn't to me. But that's just mho.
Still the quality's good and the dof is well used.

this reminds me more of a story of wealth....it doesn't appear as if the little plant has much, but it seems to be flourishing...
