Yes, I've been following mantids around with my camera. I know not everyone likes to see them kill and eat, and I don't really, either, but if I save this butterfly she'll just catch another one.
Processed it sort of dark so the details won't gross as many people out. Also thought it suited the subject.
Just after I wrote this I checked on my mantids and found this one missing, and her compatriot on the other side of the bush being attacked by a Cardinal on the ground beneath her usual hunting spot. Saw him attacking another mantis a couple of days ago; guess he's developed a taste for them. Got another one a bit later today. Looks like the count is now Cardinal 4 - Mantids 0.
PP - converted from RAW, cropped, Nik CEP (darken/lighten center, reflector efex), Nik SEP (film noir 3 tweaked), resized, Nik Sharpen, despeckle filter, blurred a bit of the foliage in the background more. |
