ABOUT THE PHOTO:
I love photographing live music performances. I find it a challenge because of the poor light and crowds of people. Tonight, I went to a local restaurant/bar called "Iron Thunder Saloon". This is a 'biker' bar and they have bands on Saturday night. The Halloween weekend brought a band in the proper spirit of things. The band is "Hamor Down" and they play relatively hard rock music. Everyone in the band was in Halloween garb and they had the stage decorated like a cemetery complete with trees and dead leaves on the ground. The bass player was wide open. He had the most incredible costume so I spent a good bit of time photographing him. I was also able to get close to him because I got permission to shoot from the DJ booth just off the side of the stage. I think I was less than 10 feet from this guy.
THE TITLE:
“Enter Sandman”
This is the song title of a Metallica tune from the Black album. For anyone who may not be familiar with Metallica, they are a hard rock band with a lot of 'minor' key music that has a bit of a macabre sound and theme.
POST PROCESSING:
* Adjusted levels on the original image
* Cloned out and painted over some background noise...
* Blacked out the eye sockets in the mask. Some irritating stuff was showing through :)
* Applied the Unsharp Mask to the full sized image
* Resized and added the border
THINGS I COULD HAVE DONE TO IMPROVE THIS PHOTO:
I don’t think I could have improved this particular photo much at all. I would really like to have had some hands visible in the shot. I shot about 50 images of this guy and tossed out about 45 of them because they were blurry due to poor light. Within the given conditions, I believe this photo is as good as it can be.
ANTICIPATED NEGATIVE COMMENTS:
I'm not sure what sort of negative comments I will receive on this photo. I may get some comments about not seeing any 'hands' on the guitar, which is reasonable. Showing the hands of a performing musician is relatively important in most cases.
ESTIMATED SCORE:
6.31
I’m estimating a higher than average score on this image, but not exceptionally high. I think a live performance photo will do well in this challenge for various reasons. I think the Halloween theme will also add some impact to this image.

| I gave this a 7. When I first saw it, it gave me the heebee jeebies and was going to click 3, then I looked at it some more and it kinda grew on me while at the same time making my skin crawl...I'm not making any sense am I? LOL |
