I left my bedroom window open and when I came back my Dionaea flytrap had caught this bat!
No, honestly, it's just a confetti-bat I put into the trap.

Cool! Great idea. Well done

Very funny explanation and a striking shot that I remember instantly. Good idea, well executed.

Thanks for all your comments. This was my very first submission and I'm proud of my place. Although I must admit I hoped for a Top 50...
Your comments are very helpful to me. I know now what to worry about when I'm going to take my next shots.
I knew about those white teeth but I could not change it. The light had to be very close because otherwise the silhouette of the bat (actually a Halloween confetti) would not have come out as well.
About the colors: Many said they didn't like them. I first tried a blue background, but in the end I decided for the biggest possible contrast. The colours were not ment to be soothing, but to cry out loud. ('Murder, murder' ;)

The background is way too bright

what is that in there?

One of the best I've seen so far. Giving you and 8. Almost gave you a 9 but the "teeth" are quite blown out. Love the green against the red bg. Great idea with the bat. Good luck!

Great closeup and good use of contrasting colors.

I love the boldness of this, and the 'bat' inside the pod is an excellent addition.

This made me smile. Thanks.

Nice backlight. Did you plant this bat inside?

The burned out highlights don't quite work for me but everything else is just great. Love that bat shape inside.

I like this picture a lot and think it's very creative in terms of color, subject, lighting... But I don't think it's completely natural, so I'm bumping it down a little.

Well this is a goodie! Perhaps a halloween caption would have been just as appropriate. Slightly overblown highlights. I'm assuming you had control over the lighting so I wonder if moving the lighting further away would have helped give a better balance, but then you might not have had such a good impression of the bat.

Cool. I'm not generally a fan of such intense colors, but it works very well in this shot. 8

Looks like a ribbon winner to me. Beautiful, well done

Like the color contrast. The spikes of the plant may be a tch too bright? And the bat shadow is just too cool.

Nice find! I can't bring myself to likethe colors, though,

Hey! That's a good idea! My only nit is the very blown out whites and left border of the plant. But the backlit bat looks great!

Hmmmmmm The fly trap is certainly bizarre. I'm not so sure about the bat (cut-out?) in the fly trap. It kind of detracts from the idea of nature. Nice colors and focus. I'll give some more thought to the score. :)

I see someone has a green thumb and has homegrown their own natural bat seedling. Great creation, background enhances the green, a little over exposed in the upper left area. Thanks.

hmmm .... interesting ....

Awesome shot if it is unmanipulated. I had gone over about 30 shots and all of them average or poor and then this comes along so it´s hard not to give it a 10. I love the colours and the whole idea.

nice concept, would have fit the challenge better if it was actually eating a fly instead of a goofy set-up

Wow! Fabulous! Great detail and sharpness. I love the choice of background and how the green and red complement each other. Also, the backlighting is perfect.

This one tickles my fancy... the colours are stunning and work well as a splashy, eyecatching shot!!
