I'd been wanting to recreate a piece of art in a photograph, that or put a new spin on it, for a while. When this challenge came up, I thought "Oh good, a chance to do that." I just about did a Salvador Dali recreation, probably "Table and Chair Attacking a Cello" but some people wouldn't get it, and Cellos are expensive. I thought about recreating Cezanne's "Still Life" with headphones on all the fruit, but decided against that as well. As I was googling for correlations between art and music, The Scream came up. as far as I know, something like this hasn't been done before. This would be my first truly embarassing public shoot. After arriving at the Home Road Bridge, I walked to the half way point, set up my tripod and camera, and took about 50 of these shots. The sun was in my eyes, today has been the first bright day we've had in a while. Some of the looks crossers of the bridge gave me were pretty amusing, especially as I held that pose. Finally I got all the elements to work together: The eyes, the mouth, the headphones, the cd player.
Before I left, I was digging through my closet to find a shirt that would be fitting... band shirt, anything. I wanted to keep this fairly universal (granted, you don't rock out to classical, but still) so I stayed away from that, and I came upon the Fender shirt. The Fender name applies to most all music genres, so I went with that.
There wasn't any music playing in the CD player, sorry to disappoint. But I did have some Queen on when the idea hit me, if that counts.
Ok, let's see, what else. Believe it or not, it was quite the warm day. Even right now at 9:00 PM it's 66 degrees farenheit. I expect to get A) praised for my creativity; B) ripped for my lack of creativity; C) ripped for travestizing a classic artwork; D) ripped for not even reproducing it right; E) ripped for being goofy; F) ripped for wearing a Fender t-shirt by all guitar enthusiasts (I don't even own on, I've got a Schecter, it's just a cool shirt); G) Ripped for not putting more space above my head (though I can show y'all the original image, you'd hate it more than this, there's too much distracting elements, which is why I reluctantly went with the tight crop). That's about it, though I'm sure I'm missing a few.
I hope that this will help pull me back over the 5 mark again. Please. Honestly, please.
LMAO wonderfull shot. I have been a big fan of both art and music most of my life. I have even painted the scream once in high school. I however never even concieved of using it as a photo. Very well done and creative. Thanks for the wonderfull laugh. Truely a priceless piece of art IMO.
