I find DPC very annoying at times. Seriously?? Chinese New Year? In a small, colonial tourist town, where am I going to find Chinese New Year stuff? We don't even have any asian grocery stores around.
So while I sat, irritated at the challenge topic, I searched for my town and Chinese New Year. And there was an Asian Festival that weekend, complete with a Lion Dance!!
I still wasn't particularly interested in going, but I did anyway.
It was a blast!! I brought the wrong lens, because I thought it was outside. And it was very difficult lighting. But it was soooo wonderful!! I had a truly marvelous time, though not too many marvelous photos. I particularly liked this one. I really wish the dad wasn't directly behind the child. And I knew that some wouldn't care for the blur. But I thought it added to the sense of movement. The shot before this was probably a more acceptable shot:
The dad wanted to do a shot with the kid and the lion -- but the kid was nervous. So he did the selfie with the lion. Which made the kid curious and he came closer, and then ran away. It was a hoot! Though I like the selfie, this had more soul, imo.
By the way -- I hate the white vignette, as well, but I just couldn't get it to work otherwise. There was just way too business around the outside, and cropping it close too away some of the magic. I had to find someway to bring in the eye. I actually liked it in B&W, but it seemed such a shame to get rid of the colors.
So once again, I am reminded that, even when I don't want to shoot for the stupid DPC challenges, that so many times they are the best and the most magical adventures.
That being said -- I hated the obsession challenge!! So they're not ALL magical adventures! ;)
Thanks for the comments! And what a wonderful surprise getting bling! |

Fun and awesome energy...makes me wish I were there! I dislike the white vignette intensely, personal preference. 7 |

This certainly embodies what I would expect for a new year celebration. Dragons, family, fun. (is that a dragon?) I was hoping to learn something from these images about the year of the monkey. And especailly about peoples' interpretations about what a monkey year is. I'm afraid I don't get much from this image. |
