 Mood of intolerance for intruders. This is the male owl guarding the female on the nest.

Our Great-horned owls are "on the clock" and on the "nest". Mating occurred sometime in the last half of February. Today, the female is brooding. The male is in "guardian" pose. The egg laying (usually 2) is imminent, or has occurred. Incubation Period 30–37 days. Nestling Period 42 days. So, that means the owlets will hatch around April 5. The owlets will fledge about May 17. This is ahead of normal for our owls. Canon EOS 5DmkIII, Canon EF400mm f/5.6L USM, 1/640s@f/5.6, ISO 1250, lens focal length 400mm. 03/03/16 8:42AM.
