COMPOSITION
An excellent choice for the challenge, and you have portrayed it in an interesting fashion. The nose and the eye help to counter balance each other, but it leaves me feeling like it either needs a little more space at the top, or a little less at the bottom.

TECHNIQUE
The lighting on this is excellent. The details of the hair (and whiskers) is very well shown. I suspect many people saw the nose out of focus and didn't stop to notice that the rest of the face was very crisp and clear. The camera was focusing on the spot just above the white area. I know it probably wouldn't have been possible, but if you could have focused on the nose, then composed the shot (like a cat is going to give you that much time!), it may have been more effective, because dpc voters typically like the foreground in focus.

OVERALL EFFECT
I think this is a very good shot, and you have captured the essence of "cathood" -- getting up close and personal like cats seem to do. I think it is a very good shot, and the only thing I might try to change is the area of the main focus. Good work.

The texture that the white hairs on the white cat is nice. I like the green in the cats eyes.

Not a bad macro all in all. It just hard to capture a macro with this much depth without something getting blurry - Inspzil

That's a very intense macro - perhaps a little too close. It's certainly an interesting shot though, with lots to look at. I don't like the shallow depth of field - too much of the image is blurred.

Wow, great detail!!! That's very close! (Whenever I try this, the cats touch their noses to the lens....cat snot!) Very very nice! Easy 9 (may go up to a 10!)

Fantasic closeup with the eye and nose positioned that way! Too bad the nose isn't a little sharper however.

good photo...would like to see the focus clearer around the eye...looks like camera focused just below it. i love the close cropping, though!

This would have worked better with the tip of the nose in focus.

I know how hard it is to photograph animals, the never hold a pose long enough for me to get all the camera adjusted just right. This is a beautifull shot and a sure winner if the depth of field included the nose as will as the eye.

The focus appears to be somewhere between the eyes and nose... should have picked one or the other for more impact.

hello cat! Hoy, nice beast! I like the white patcha nose and the techture of the white black and greys. I dont like the shadow cast on the eye itself nor the blurryness around the top edges. Good lookin shot of a good lookin cat though. Cheers

This would be better for me if the eye was in focus. I am guessing you are hearing this a lot this week. For wildlife pictures it is usually customary that the eyes are in sharp focus. However, I also believe that there is nothing wrong with breaking the rules. I like your picture and I hope you do well. It looks like quite a cute kitty, and it is a wonderful expression. You captured the moment well.

I wish the focus had been sharper on the nose, although that would have made the eye very much out of focus. Maybe less DOF would have been the answer.

The angle you shoot this at is perfect. He's a beaut. My critique on it would be to have a slightly bigger DOF or focus on his eye. It looks like the camera was confused and focused right between his eye and nose. I think it would be perfect if that was done. These shots are hard to take, my parents cats always move.
