Thanks Marcel, Lydia and Marion and anyone else who saw merits in this one. I knew the image quality was lousy - very very dark in the room (supposed to be romantic) and I hate pushing my camera above 500 much less to 3200. I still had to shoot with the aperture wide open to get enough light, and that wasn't ideal for the perspective (balanced precariously on a chair with a friend holding both me and the chair to make sure I didn't fall and hurt myself or someone else). I worked and worked it in post, trying to get the two front people more in focus, to lighten the faces and scene, darken the background, reduce the noise, etc. etc. This was the best I could come up with. Actually, I kind of liked a painted effect that would have been perfect for the Manet challenge, but was sure to get killed in anything else. So . . . this is what I got. This group of folks served together at a small base overseas in the 1980's. The base was only active about eight years and it was a remote tour though a few were accompanied or chose to bring families. Anyway, we get together every year someplace different for a weekend reunion. It's crazy :) Every year new folks who have heard about the reunion join us, so some of the people at the table have been attending as often as possible for years and others were at their first get-together. This was the final event, a banquet the night before we all went our separate ways again. |
