chepstow is a castle in wales that i visited this week, and it was built about 1000 years ago. it's a very impressive heritage site.

this image shows the only light source that would be seen by prisoners held within the castle. this is basically a chimney, and it is no wider than a large orange. i imagine prisoners would have almost end up worshiping this little chimney/porthole.
