This is my first challenge entry in four months. Lots of work. Lots of personal issues. And yes, a lot of it related to the election. The results affected me so profoundly that the last month I didn't take any photos at all. Today was my first visit into my studio.
I think I was finally drawn to create something because the idea of leaving this country for another (or even perhaps to another planet altogether) has been the topic of many conversations. But I realized I am totally out of practice, photographically. My original idea didn't work AT ALL. And I almost gave up.
But I decided I would try to create a tiny planet with what I'd shot. That was likewise a miserable failure.
However, it gave me another idea, and eventually this was it. I'm actually rather pleased with the result, although I doubt it will score well. But I like the hopefulness of it, the cheery colors, and the mysterious floating rock. Which is, of course, named after the floating rocks in Avatar.
The mysterious sky was created using phosphorescent paint on my vinyl backdrop, lit by a black light. The mountains were liquified from the ground shot, and then covered texture from a photo of some dead plants. I shifted the color of some of the green grass to red. As far as bells and whistles, this one is pretty low tech for me.
I hope you enjoy it, and will come and visit me there when I move :) |

I love the levitating rock, and it's shadow. Looking forward to you finding your mojo again...as I've said-- I'm a fan of your work.
Congrats on the TT! |

Nice to see you back at work. I so understand your reaction after the election. That being said, as an artist, this is a good time to translate your thoughts and feelings into images: I am convinced the result would be interesting, and who knows, maybe useful (and not just for you). For what it's worth, loads of persons in the US and across the world are with you on this one: let's do our best to overcome this (real) challenge! |

I'm glad to see you're back! Remember, each election affects the "other side" the same way.
I love the floating rock!
