Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Pet photos meet the cliche challenge with no problem :) I think this shot is quite good compared to a lot of pet shots I have seen in the past... What really makes this one work well for me is the strong diagonal composition created by the down slope of the dog's nose in the frame... strong diagonals are always nice for me :)
The only area of improvement that I can possibly see here was probalby out of your control. The dog's face seems to be in the shadows of the room. The lighting seems to be brighter towards the rear of the frame. Some amount of extra light would possibly increase the impact of this shot. I can tell by your 1/6" shutter speed that light was not strong. However, on that note, you have an incredibly sharp photo for an exposure that long :)
The catch light in the dog's eye is another nice element of this photo for sure... This is a beautiful dog... keep taking great photos of this subject :)

Thanks to all for the many great comments. My dog is 40% wolf and is very elusive when it comes to taking pictues.
She is very affectionate but indepenent. |

I like this shot, but I'd have cropped the sides closer to the dog's eye and nose. That's just my opinion though. |

Excellent, a really good dog shot at last!
I love the composition on this. Using the dog's body as a background is genius, and the crop/framing is great. Focus is spot on with good detail on the face.
Great shot, well done. |

Composition: Excellent. Lovely fill of colour/texture across the whole frame.
Technical: Really like the colour and lighting. Only slightly apprehension is the light line around the subject's nose (due to sharpening), but that's only very minor.
Overall impression: Top 10 maybe? 9 |

This composition is very interesting and intriguing. At first I loved it, then I hated it. Now, I've decided it is interesting. The face and the body just somehow dont seem to go right together (although Im sure they do in reality). It looks like some sort of puzzle you're supposed to put together into a square or something. i dont know exaclty. The colors are nice and the dog is beautiful. I would be proud of such and interesting animal picture. |

He definitely does have that wolfe quality to his looks. White shepherd? I had a pair and they were the best dogs. Beautiful dog here. BUT I would like to have seen more of him. The photo is clear and sharp. Just a little too tightly cropped for me personally. |

I like the focus and I like the colours although the composition is a little uncomfortable for myself. Especially the line which continues from the dogs nose. Also, I would have been tempted to include more of the head. Certainly the angle of the face and the intensity of the eye really do a lot for the image - well done. |
