So this is my first exposure merge. Instead of doing an HDR, I took two shots at different exposures, laid the darker one on top of the lighter one, and then created a layer mask to remove the dark areas from the dark exposure.
Anyway, I think it looks okay. I expect the experts here to spot the imperfections very quickly. So why did I enter this into one of the toughest challenges. Well, I probably would not have. But I had more than 200 people like, react, and comment on Facebook about this shot, some of them from my photograph clubs too. And of course you all know that if that happens on Facebook, well... ;-)
PP: The photo merge and then color, exposure, contrast, etc...

For this challenge I am making a point of commenting on a few images which fall in different places on my scoring. This fell in a broad middle range. I enjoy the delicate feel of the grey branches against the sky and the shapes of the branches in the center reaching towards the water and their reflection. However, the overall image feels too busy and I find my eye keeps jumping around, pulled from one place to another, from the top to the bottom and from side to side, never finding a place where it can come to rest. |

Nicely shot image. I like the bit of mystique. |
