I'm bucking the trend here, but I really like this. I was one of your 8s. I think it is rather painterly and the haze doesn't bother me at all. The boat is attractive, the people add interest and I love the birds. I can't really see what is not to like.

With scenes taken of or near the water, which includes most of my shots taken here on Cape Cod, I often use Lightroom Dehaze early in my processing steps. It's an option within the Develop module, very near the bottom pf the panel. It helps bring clarity and since it's a slider, so you can control the amount.

I'm guilty of giving it a 5. I can't add any further insight other than to repeat what others have said. The subject isn't particularly interesting to me. If you were closer and we could see what the fishermen were doing, maybe it would have held my interest for longer. The border doesn't add anything, but I don't find it annoying. I'm almost certain you have more interesting images in your collection from 2016 :)

I like the scene. I find it interesting.

I think you're right about the border. I'd have left it off... it's overshadowing the scene.

I also wish the clarity were better and maybe more "punch"/contrast/saturation?? to score it higher... something to make it less flat.

Well, most frequent score was a 5. I wonder what it is that would get your 6-&-above vote? My honest reaction is the light is flat, the camera angle suggests the reason for the shot is to document the name & number of the boat, & the scene doesn't hold my interest. Also the letterbox border makes me think the shot was cropped to fill the frame. It is a decent shot, as you say, but I'd vote a decent shot with a 5.

I think many would see it as a boring snapshot maybe

Not sure if the boat or the birds are the subject so it doesn't draw me in. Good clear shot though.
