My grandson and their family dog, still a puppy, who chewed on the rose I first place with them. I was going for 3 cliche subjects - got 2.

Critique Club Critique

(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) This is going to be a very difficuot photograph for me to critique. I am not one of those people who dislike kid and dog pics, on the contrary, when they are well done they are my favorite subjects. Unfortunately I do not find the composition of this photograph to be very compelling. My interst is not held for every long because the composition is weak.

(2) BACKGROUND The background is very plain, which is a good thing for this particular subject. Both of the subjects stand out well against the neutral color of the carpet.

(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL The DOF is very deep, the eyes of the dog and the child are both in sharp focus. I feel a bit distracted by the dogs missing ear tips and the childs missing fingers and toes. I wish you had maybe gotten a bit closer to their level. Looking down on them is not as effective as if you had gotten down on yur knees and faced them on their level.

(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL Your post processing is good. Saturation is good. The colors here are really quite wonderful.

(5)MEETING THE CHALLENGE This photo a very good job of meeting the challenge. Children and pets are particular favorites of mine.

(6) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO The subject here is alright. The way you executed it is alright. I think this is a photograph that you may wish to re-shoot under different conditions and placing the baby and the dog into different positions. The potential here is great, but I feel that you have not quite gotten it yet.

Oops! Is that a Samoyed or another white fluffy dog?

it could've been better composed...

I don't see much connection between the baby and the dog. As cute as they both are, it would be much more endearing if they were huddled together, or if the dog were licking his face, or if there were something else to tie them together. There is also a problem with lighting here in that the baby's shirt is the most lit part of him. This tends to draw attention from his face. I also find the spotted carpet to be somewhat distracting, perhaps a cozy rug or blanket would work better.

Cute kid, pretty dog - not crazy about the background/floor. A better photo if the baby was leaning against the dog who was not wearing the tags, but now I\'m asking for miracles, right? Sweet little outfit on the baby!!

what a sweet baby...look at all that hair!! i wish this shot had been a little more posed...maybe with the baby sitting up and more eye level with the dog. would like to see another try at this...i think it would be worth the effort. :)

Nice colors. I like how you had the subjects positioned.

Wonderful concept :) Great title :) I wonder if it might be cropped just a little tight. The baby's hand and foot and the dogs ears might have been better left in.

nice photo. both the baby and the dog have my attention; the photo is in sharp focus, and the colors are pleasing to the eye. I like the way you have the dog looking directly into your camera. Perhaps you could have used your cropping a little better and left the babies hand and foot in the picture, but otherwise, nice job.

the focus ought to have been only the dog. the baby seems a little... out of place with the dog since it's just laying down (i'm morbid and i want to say it looks like it was just dropped on the ground by the dog for the photo). the hand and foot cut off are a little off-putting as well.

I looks more like Dog and his baby boy...:) Very cute shot. Pretty dog and adorable baby - look at all that hair -- on the baby, I mean. One little pet pieve I have is cropping off fingers and toes. I think it would improve your shot if included the rest of the adorable child in the picture.

Ahhhhh. 2 in 1 - cute baby and cute pet. You score doubly. But what's the "who ate the flower!" Great job of getting the dog to stay there. That's not easy. They are both just precious and it's a good photo on top of that. Nice details. A little dark on the left side and back, but not enough to really hurt the photo that much

Sweet dog and darling baby.

The title made me laugh. I like the idea, but I think that you could've get a better picture if you put them in a different position. Maybe a close up of the baby's face with the dog, with someone (out of the frame) holding the baby in position. Good luck!
