Unfortunately, the tree is in better focus that the boy. For a photo like this to work, the eyes have to be tack sharp IMO |

I wouldn't guess the tree is the main subject like it seems hinted by the focus. Look is touching even though tones at eye seem to be pretty blocked. So the contrast is not where it should be. |

Nice crisp image. Great range of values. The fact that your subject is slightly in the shadow and the focus is a little softer complements his hesitant expression. You made a connection with your subject that the viewer can feel. I would crop this closer. The subject's highly lit clearly focused left shoulder distracts from the really powerful elements in this photo. Nice job. |

Crop out the left side and you got a 10. As is the left side is distracting. |

Cute. The focus might be off a bit. I know how frustrating that can be. It wouldn't be so bad, you could have said you did it for that soft focus look, but that darn tree is right there in front. I do have a suggestion though. When you want to focus on the boy and he is cooperating, move him a bit away from anything that might grab the camera's attention. On this one you could have had him step a foot away, prefocused on him and then have him step back to the tree. He would have to be in the mood to do that, but it might be something to think about. |

Needs black, and at the same time I would like to see the details in the hat and eyes. 4 |

Focus would be better on face rather than tree. |

For some reason I am drawn to this photograph. I like the sharp focus on the tree and the softer focus on the childs face. |

Seems to me the subject is the boy, thus he should have been the one in focus. |
