 An American White Pelican (Pelecanus Erythrorhynchos) taking off in Galveston Bay at sunrise, Galveston, Texas, USA.

When I went out shooting on Saturday I was hoping to get a good shot of a bird in flight for this challenge. I was so happy when the pelican I was photographing in the rising sun started to take off. Because it happened so fast I didn't even think about changing my settings and the slow shutter speed of 1/400 actually worked in my favor. I got the head sharp but a nice amount of motion blur in the wings and feet.............I really love how this photograph came out.

An appealing image that contributes to the challenge well

Another great image Ronnie. The dominant factor here is the lovely colour of the water reflecting the sun’s lovely warm colours, this together with the bird’s action and position all make for a very attractive image. However, as regards the challenge brief of motion panning the ‘fast’ shutter speed and distance make for very little effect of panning, a significantly slower speed would have fulfilled the challenge brief more readily.

This is more stop motion than motion panning. Nice shot, but not really what this challenge is looking for IMO.
