| Took a while to appreciate this unusual image. When you back up and squint the blocks of tone fall into an uneasy balance. To me the dark blotch resembles a person facing left with a release of white liquid - don't know what that is - flowing onto or into the figure's head. That's the abstraction, mysteriously suggestive, which engages the viewer. Don't know if I'm onto something or not. But the staying power of this photo is wrapped up in its abstract opacity and ambiguity. |
