I got this idea when taking few shots of the ashtray & smoke. The TV was on and I was checking it out too.
When they showed someone's close up, I thought maybe I could combine these elements to create 'Passive Smoke'.
I changed the channel to a music one and tried my luck. I got this one from about 60 shots and 3 cigarettes (I didn't smoke them!). I could have paused a DVD to get the background, but this is from a Sunday morning!

Processing:
- Cropped a bit
- Adjusted Curves to get bit more contrast
- Converted to Monochrome using Hue/Saturation. Master was set to -100 and individual channels were adjusted to get the balance.
- Used NeatImage to even out the noise created from ISO 500 and visible when playing around with individual channels.
- Resampled and applied Unsharp Masrk.

Strong out of the box thinking. IMO the composition might be improved by eliminating the distracting space below the TV and including more of the ashtray.

Keep on pushing the limits.

Very expressive shot with the perfect DOF and infusion of background.

Interesting how you've tilted the photo to make the smoke appear vertical. Creative touch. I'm not sure what the TV image in the background adds though

A very nice take with an artistic presentation. The angle is just great with the sweeping vertical lines to add both tension and beauty because the cropping angle is holding the immediate rising smoke vertical. Cool. 8

I like the intentional til in this, but since the smoke is traveling up it makes it seem correctly tilted. Nice job.

Am I too focus on the cigarette or the face?

Excellent composition, nicely executed. Love the motion of the reflected subject against the crystal clear foreground subject. 10. Good luck!

Nice angle, nice movement, Ithink the background is too busy, iit dosent create the sense of dread I think you are looking for. It pulls away from the movement and quality of the smoke.
