Originally my Black & White entry, but switched out at the last minute :-\

----

This could go either way. Love or hate. High or low. Blue or brown. There's no middle of the pack this time. Hooshah!

Been struggling with this challenge. This actually was my idea for the Non Masters Impressionism thread. I was going to try and be goofy and submit this. Ended up being an unconventional B&W shot. I'm submitting it to see how DPC reacts to something that almost travesties (scratch almost, it does) B&W, landscapes, and studio shots.

So let's see.... I wish I could clone, because then I'd swipe out the duct tape that's visible on both trees. I intentionally made the set up and scene visible, if that makes sense. I wanted it to be obvious what I did: A third grade art project :D

I'm inclined to say the voters are the opiate of the masses. Maybe not the masses, but maybe just me. They keep me from ribboning. It's not my lack of talent, I swear! Hopefully this shot will do well, but my humor and unconventionality (High Note, Retrato Indeciso) seem to be wasted here. Oh well, I still endeavor.

Voted down on:

Let's see, let me think here.
1) Whole subject's not in focus. Granted, but that's sort of hard to do.
2) Duct tape is showing. I know. If I could shoot it again, I would.
3) Shadow on left tree. I wasn't about to turn the tree so it caught the light. I'm not your people's slave.
4) Something along the lines of "What the heck is this? Are you in freakin preschool?" and to that, I say to thee: :-Þ
5) Voted down on originality

Who knows, the way things are going, I might get a DQ request... this is a picture of my "artwork." But then, isn't every studio set up or still life the photographer's artwork? Food for thought.

So enough of my rambling japery. This shot was a lot of fun to set up, shoot, and write these details on. I hope the voters retain a sense of humor. If they don't, I'll give up on humanity.

I'm not concerned as much with the performance of my pictures (though, admittedly, its a darn good feeling to rake in a 5.5+). I submit because I want to stretch myself to see if I can take a picture each week of two different themes, to improve myself as a photographer (which is another reason I didn't submit this picture, it wasn't really expanding my capabilities as much as making fun of the voters)

If you are going to poke fun at the masses, do it well. The drawings are visual enough to get your point across without having to leave the outside area as a hint to the viewers. Fill the frame and I like thatcloudthere's idea of having the shadows come towards the camera. I'd even think a flashlight beaming out from behind the sun's position would have been fun. A lower camera angle would help to. And think of what you could do to get that heavily manipulated burn/dodge look in the sky.

Let's pretend it was in focus and the light source was above and behind the sun, so that shadows of the fake paper trees were cast towards the camera (just as if the sun was real)...

I would score it a 7.

Looks like a pretty standard stage prop model to me. Checking dictioanry... nope, no mention of "art" for "prop" or "stage." You might make it to the finish line this time. :) Good luck!
