Good grief, it just dipped down to a 4.35 now. To say that I expected this to score well would be a lie. This is not a portrait to showcase skills of technical mastery or pretty people. It is portrait of a person, my father as some of you will know, who is dear to me and unwell. He couldn't stand steady long enough for me to make this picture. He has Parkinson's. He doesn't suffer tremors nearly as much as just muscle rigidity and freezing. When trying to stand still, he will tremor subtly. It is hard for him.

A man who could once squat lift 300lbs, can now barely lift himself out of his chair.

Parkinson's is more than just shaking uncontrollably. Most of those who have it don't shake at all. It affects mind and body. The shallowness of some voters gets to me at times. A photograph is more than just a collection of bits and pieces to find flaw in. It is a whole, a moment, a thought, and sometimes a ballad. They don't all need to be pretty.

I gave this a 9. I thought it was a very powerful shot, with a story behind it. Probably got so dinged as it was not a full portrait of a head. But this is so emotive, I can honestly see this hanging in a gallery. I am sorry, I did not know your father was poorly, What a struggle for him and yourself. I think that the score affects you more, as you are pouring your heart into the photo as much as into real life. If you can, please do not stop taking photos of your Dad or life. Try to ignore the low votes and just be so proud of what you are communicating in your photos to some people. That is what counts in the end, that you did touch people, who have no idea about what is going on. All my love to you both.
