I had been chasing the lightning storm, most of the day. Every time I got to the lightning and set up. It dispersed. I even got to one spot where the hairs lifted on my head as it struck the ground. Yeah,me and my rubber boots still stayed there to shoot the next one,,, nope. It went away.
So frustrating to get 500+ pictures of nooooooooooothinggggggggggg. 5 hours of lightning and nothing.
The kids finally got me off the couch again where I was pouting and cursing the lightning curse I have.
Drove out to the mountain in the pouring rain. Set up, bloody camera decides it is not going to work. SO many swear words. Fiddled around with it a bit. Got it to work. Re-set up outside, doesn't work, fiddle again, set up again, .
At this point, my son, has flashed me 6 times in the eyes, with the halogen lights, told me I had stood on a snake and I did each of these in 2 seconds flat then he just laughed and said "Gotcha"
I as pretty much stomping my feet and throwing the dolly out of the pram at this point, wondering if it is too late to sell my child as well.
Last try as I was determined to get something other than a black mountain top .
Then BOOOOM, 10 shots at 30 seconds, I got 6 lightning shots. I had done it.
Went home, pleased as punch. Then edited and stuck it in the challenge.
It is, to be honest, a fairly mediocre lightning shot. There are some stunning photographs of lightning in our little town by people. But this one to me, is great, mostly, because, all I see, are Dragons Chasing Snakes, and someone else pointed out, Wild Horses rearing up. That to me is magic, the imagination and the magic of a photograph.
I reckon, I have driven about 1700+ miles chasing storms since June, listened to 100+ hours of country music, taught 1 of my kids to drive and pass her test, taught the other kid, how to drive and how to be sensible when it comes to mudding off roading. Taken over 5000+ pictures of lightning before and after it hits. Got 7 actual whole photographs of lightning, whilst out and about taking lighting shots.
Moral of the story. All good things come to those that NEVER LEAVE the HOUSE and SHOOT from their Balcony! LOL
