Thanks to all who commented. Your comments are appreciated. For those of you who did not like my props or the shadows - the shadows are deliberate. While it wasn't my intention, I think the "distracting" shadow served a purpose in making my Waldo "not so obvious." I was surprised that some voters had difficulty locating my Waldo.
The mason jar is an antique collectible, and highly desirable in the area where I live. Mason jars of this type are often used as flower vases for country decor (or so I thought).
To each his own, I guess, but I am pleased with how well the photo performed in this challenge.

Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil
Composition - Good concept for Where's Waldo. I think the challenge on the whole produced some interesting photos. This is no exception. There are 2 things about this photo that I don't like, and all the rest I like. The first is your "vase," and the doily looks like a napkin. The second is the dominance of the shadows in the pic. The colors I think are great, the double exposure thing is cool, the framing is nice. The biggest thing that I can't get around are the darn shadows.
Technical - Well done. My wife has tried doing stuff with the multiple exposure feature on her 602 with not much success. This was well done and well thought out.
Overall - A little of the finishing touches added to this and you'd really have something. This is a well executed picture, just the setup might've been better served with some better props and less shadows. Good job Mcrael, keep up the good work. - Inspzil |

This is really neat, I'll be glad to see how you did it. Great job. A bit too much on the shadows but I wonder if that was necessary. |

Great job of hiding Waldo. and Beautiful photo. But come on, a mason jar. Didn't you have anything else to put the flowers in? The are exquisite flowers and deserve to be shown off to the fullest in a beautiful vase. A nice vace would hve helped so much. Details, details. they can make or break you. This is probably the 2nd or 3rd best job of hiding Waldo of the challenge but the composition lacks badly. Need to spend more time on the overall composition the next time. This had the potential of being #1. |

Van Gogh's Sunflowers, ok. Meeting the challenge? I don't see a person, so no. OK - is it the eye in the flower? |

This is one of my favorites so far. A lovely photograph that meets the challenge in a unique way. I especially love the piece of material under the vase that ties it all together and the high-contrast feel this has. |

That's an interesting effect, I'm curious as to how you achieved it. The shadows a bit distracting here, and I'd say the doily isn't necessary, and detracts. Still, neat work with the face. |

Well damn, that's kind of creepy. But nice shot, I like the reflection of the water in the shadow. |

Very interesting effect. Makes me wonder how it was done, I will try to remember to read the notes on this one after the challenge. Nice color, focus, composition. The jar, doilie and dual tone background seem clumsy together, esp. the jar and the doilie. On the other hand, the effect with the face is just too wonderful to mark this down too much. 8 Swash |

You sure met the challenge here. I like it, the flowers are not centred, the border matches and most of all you have a most original submission here. I am very keen to know how you managed it. |

Absolute fantastic job of hiding Waldo, however, I think the overall staging of the flowers is a bit weak to meet the full potential of the photograph. I think that if you did a better job of controlling the environment, this would have been a 10. e.g. black background, that didn't show a shadow, removed the white cheesecloth from underneath the vase, and had the water line filled to the top. Conclusion, there are too many distractions to warrant a 10, but the flowers by themselves are great. |

Ooooh, I really had to study this to see what you were getting at. The disclaimer ("This image has been validated by the administrators") made it all the more compelling and cryptic. There's that face! Interesting effect! |

Huh? Just a stupid flower pic from the cliché challenge? Hmm, reflection in the glass? No.
Shadow effect? No.
Just when I was about to give up I spot the face in the flower. :)
Wonder how you did this, good that there is an admin note on it.
