An 1850's Water-wheel at the Howick Historical Villiage, Auckland, New Zealand. The ironwork of the wheel is original and powered a flour mill at Manurewa, Auckland from 1855.

Unfortunately, the large steel gear wheel was not able to be captured due to the proximity of the mill building. (None of the drive-chain itself exists any longer.)

(Please excuse the title - I think there's there's something wrong with this red wine! :)

Post: Actually, too darn much imo.
- Rotated to correct odd perspective
- Cropped.
- Non-subject background unsaturated to eliminate overbearing and distracting bright greens (plants) and reds (building frame.)
- Background Gausian Blur to add Depth-of-Field bringing the subject out in the clear, so-to-speak.
- Some foreground weeds (plants) cloned out.
- Changed hue of water-supply trough (was grey) to lift it out of the new B&W background, added some blue hue to the water for the same reason.

For a photo that was originally aiming for a "simple, single subject" look, the "simple" got lost in the mix somewhere.

Nice choice of subject. Definitely low technology. Great focal point and DOF. Something in the contrast between the wetness of the wheel and the desaturation has made the image seem more of a miniature (model) wheel rather than the real thing. Perhaps a reversed desat would still focus on the wheel while correcting this.

Well, the selective desaturation helps make the wheel pop, but it also makes the scene feel contrived (especially since the block attaching the wheel to the bricks looks b&w). Would a more blurred background be more effective?
