Wonderful shadows and lights, patterns and textures. I love how the dog's head stands out from the dark. |

so envious of this dark in the daytime. (my GR died awhile back; not that I ever managed these contrasts with it). how is it that a dog can pull these patterns and lines together just by being.

Leading the way into the dark, great moment - I think it works so well precisely because the dog is white and contrasts so well with the shadows. Look at that lamppost shadow on his back! :) |

wonderful composition with the diagonals of shadow and the dog's head immersed in darkness and looking even further into darkness. |

You captured the right moment. You were there in the perfect spot, perfect light.
I had an encounter one with a dog that reluctantly posed for me and can never forget his stare:

Very interesting image. Peering into the dark you realize you can penetrate about half way, and I love the subtlety of that. I like how the strong shadows allow a gentle curve across the dog's back. I also like the hint of a profile and even the candy wrapper on the ground. Lovely, unique and compelling.

I love his stance and the way the deep shadows work in this one . . . though he may not see it, he hears something over there in the darkness for sure. Particularly nice exposure and composition - great use of the strong diagonal shadows of the dog and pole. Works well for me. |
