would just like to thank the nine below for the constructive and illustrative comments. the quality of each and everyone is considerably higher than normal, so i was just moved to say, cheers, thanks guys.
note about the shot - in the last week or so i've been in a bit of a muddle with regards to monitor calibration. on my home PC, the above looks great, but everywhere else, the centre looks very grey and shoddy. i'm hopin it's all been sorted now... |

Challenge link: medium/strong. Theme is bit to like The Past here for me, rather than the sensation of time passing by.
Image critique: a strong composition and impressive subject. However, the editing is a bit transparent here which distracts me from the photo. Highlights are quite blown (sky is overpowering) and some midtone dodging has left some faded areas at the centre. I know this place I think (Castle Rising?) but I can't be sure.
Out-of-challenge appeal: not much due to editing anomalies. |

Quite like your burning - or however it wa done - giving that useful sense of focus. The only downside of it is that the contrast seems to have gone a bit along the wall and where the staircase is on the keep itself. Strong sense of composition, though I'd perhaps argue with your title - it seems more redolent of endurance of 1000 years than of much decay. Nice work. |

A little vignetted...was it intentional? Building a little tilted. Just being picky. I like it a lot. |

There appears to be a strange darkness in the corners, not sure if that is intended or just a problem with the lens. However, I don't find it adds anything positive to the image |

Very nice shot in spite of the Title. I like the colors, levels and composition (strongest element). The vignette effect isn't so strong in my opinion. Could be a bit more sharpened. Among my top picks. |

This just looks very heavily photoshopped. More along the lines of digital art than a true photograph for me. The problem with it, is that you're trying to depict deterioration, and yet you make this photo look slick and shiny, and there seems to be a huge loss of detail in the actual aging of the castle itself. I lose any connection with the age of the subject, because of the manipulation of the photo. |

great atmosphere ... does not really convey the feeling of passing time, though, rather of times past |

The post editing gives a very good impression of timelessness. I like the image and the effect; I would have preferred to see the caste walls to be adjusted to the vertical as this is rather distracting. |

Wow good work, I love the sky and the way the light hits the building. Not sure if i necessarily like the darkness in the lower two corners, but it doesn't detract from the image either. Good composition and the green-ness of the grass really stands out to me. |
