To grayscale and back to rgb. Levels, curves and um.

This was presented as an ironic joke, hence the title. A chair was used for the bars. It is just a bashing of those in the US who praise dictators such as Castro, while realizing that this is the fate of the innocent subjects.

This is a striking image that causes the viewer to try to imagine the story behind the bars. Technically the picture is excellent. As in many of the other challenges good pictures that depict violence or are a little on the "dark" side do not do as well. This one should have done much better in the voting.

while i get what you're after (result of authority being applied, as opposed to actually showing authority), i don't think that was the intent of the challenge. that aside, the image is fine. bw gives the image a lot of strength, lighting and focus are on, general composition works well.

not sure how you set up the shot, but i would say that if you went to much trouble to capture the image, i wish you would have gone a little further and included an authority figure in the image. from a scoring standpoint, outside-the-box images usually don't do that well without a real, real strong tie to the challenge. with this image, i'll be surprised if the voters in general will be that generous. good luck!

Great concept and clever title. The image rings false in that the clothes are too clean and the tears in the shirt too fresh. Pay attention to those details so that your work transcends and becomes real, not staged. Again, great premise, nice use of light and shadow.

I like the pic, but I am confused about the Banana Republic part.

The bars being entirely silhoueted make them seem added in post. If they had some toning, and were in sharper detail, they would give me a better sense of location. An interesting photo, but a bit too isolated for me.
