You're absolutely right, it's a learning process researching insects based on the details. This one had a vivid gold-colored backpack of sorts so it was a snap finding it online. They also show up in late Spring so there are quite a few out there. I would love to photograph a hummingbird moth and that will be one of my projects this weekend.

what a cute little guy .. i'm loving the green all around him .. and that you have identified him too .. its often difficult to know what an insect/fly is .. especially as there about 120,000 species of flies .. !! .. ;)

have fun with a decent macro lens .. it really is the difference between a good macro of a insect and a great one .. equipment does matter .. ;)

I could do a lot better if I had a proper macro lens or used Eric's ozerad lens which I might try out this weekend.
