I agree with the title! If it wasn't for that lamp in the background, firemen wouldn't be able to see the fire hydrant to put out the fire! ;-) I'm being facetious, but now that I think about it, maybe you were including the lamp in your title? If that's the case, I would change my comments to "...and provide a beacon for dogs to relieve themselves." ;-) As far as the photo - cropping is good, composition good, challenge appropriateness ok, focus and depth are off though.

Cute and simple but look at the iron it is built from. The hydrant operates on a simple principle but a water well is more apropos for this challenge. 6

Good idea, but the focus seems a little soft all the way around. And it needs more color to bring it out. Otherwise, good choice of subject, and the composition is excellent.

I don't think this fits the challnge well, but that may be my interpretaion, so no penalty. However, the hydrant does not appear sharp, or perhaps not in focus. The lam post (glass) does not appear real, the grass seems odd - i suspect you did some type of post processing to get an effect, and well, my 2 cents is I don't like the effect.

This would benefit from a tighter crop.

OK, I totally don't get it. I suppose the fire hydrant is the subject but what's the deal with the background? Why is that important, i.e., what does it add to the picture? The focus is soft on the hydrant and the background is way too in focus. Just overall uninteresting and confusing.
