Hmmm, I wonder why so many people thought of cotton reels - I dont really automatically associate cotton with the number 7 - as for something constructive, I think this image needs a little more oomph... contrast, saturation or just better lighting.

I'm not sure I like the color of the background - I think if it were white the thread colors would pop out more.
