CRITIQUE CLUB:
SUBJECT: I think the kitten is extremely cute and the look on his face is priceless. This is a once-in-a-lifetime shot that can't be anything but candid. I know you are getting some greif on the coloring and contrast, but I also think this was taken "quickly" to steal the moment and there's nothing wrong with that.
LIGHTING: Obviously, the lighting is a bit flat and washed. Again, you couldn't drag studio lights in and still get that cute face. However, to make it a better print NOW, you might want to brighten it and increase the contrast with a photo editing program.
TECHNICAL: Everything seems fine, except that the "frame" around the kitten is blurry - maybe want to adjust shutter speed and aperture a bit.
CHALLENGE: The kitten has beautiful yellow eyes, but they are a very soft yellow compared to the rest of the items in the challenge. I think this just wasn't yellow enough.
OVERALL: A very cute candid shot that you'll be glad you took. It's also one that should be easy to touch up. |

Hi. I didn't get to your image during voting, but thought I would comment now. As other people have said one of the problems with this image is that it's washed out. The black isn't very black and the white isn't very white. Your Westward Bound has slightly better contrast.
Have you looked at "histograms" or "levels" in your photo editing tool, or even simply "brightness/contrast"? Also have a look at the tutorials section on this site for some helpers. |

colors are dull and seems a little out of focus. |

This could do with an increase in contrast, and possibly cropping to just show the cat's head. |

Wow nice yellow eyes! You should have increased the saturation on this photo and it would have enhanced it remarkably! There are a number of ways of doing this, I usually use the hue/saturation adjustment or curves adjustment in Photoshop. |

Beautiful expession. Sharpen up the focus a little and you have in the ribbons. |

I don't really feel this meets the challenge - it's an orange cat!! |

This is a beautiful cat :) I believe that the color in this image is a little flat and the contrast is a bit weak also... The theme of 'yellow' could be stronger with some more contrast in the image :) - setzler |
