Seen from a distance, life is a cycle: birth, reproduction, death. The next ones repeat the process. Obviously, when analyzed in details, things get much trickier, but even without stepping into this kind of complexity, the symbolism of the circle and the associated geometry is interesting.

While the wheel is an ancient "invention", I like how this basic geometry shape embeds a notion of infinity: even if you know the diameter, you cannot express the exact length of the circumference with numbers (since it involves the constant Pi, which decimal representation never ends and never settles into a permanently repeating pattern). Simple at first glance, full of endless surprises in fact!

A few technical words about this image:
- The background has been achieved using 2 photos of my hands, combined using flip & bend technique. I used 15° rotating steps, to obtain the central rosace.
- For the "spermatozoids" trying to penetrate the circle, I simply jumped vertically a few inches, then mirrored/rotated the photos.
- For the men within the circle, I lay down on the floor and my wife took the photo from above, using a stepladder.
- For the men falling from the circle, symbolizing death, I had to voluntarily fall from a stool, to obtain realistic positions. My back hurt a bit a couple of days ;)

Thanks for watching. I hope I can enter some more challenges in the near future, I miss creating stuff!

WOW!! Incredible creation! So good to see your art here again. Sorry to hear you had to suffer for your art - you need a stuntman for those falling from stool shots :)

Thanks a lot, very kind of you. There are 33 different photos used in there, but some are related to details (for example, the hands of the main character are separate shots: I liked the face expression and light, but not the fingers position).

Congratulations!
You are a genius, like no other. The depth of this image blows my mind as to what is photographically conveyable in an image. This is more then a feeling it is a message. Amazing work.

AMAZING .. !! ..
so much of what you expressed in your photograph was lost to me until i read your notes ..
once again an image that has so much going on visually .. but also what the visual represents .. levels where you can go deeper if you so desire .. you have said before that you are no great shakes as a photographer .. but i suppose you are someone who expects a lot of themselves .. i think of you as a visionary .. who takes great photographs and then transforms them into your thoughts and feelings about our world .. not just thoughts and feelings ... but beliefs as well ..
congratulations on another unforgettable image and the story behind it .. and of course the blue .. :)

Fascinating - as always! - take on mysterious pi. There's a Vitruvian Man look going, 3, echoed and extended by smaller versions of him ticking off the digits of the endless ratio. Then tumbling off into disarray. So clever, and such a fine translation of the math into human terms. The guys gliding in from the upper left introduce the notion of fertilization, sperm into egg. Don't know if it's intentional or not, but I like. Outside the box, excellently so.
Second favorite of the challenge.

a wonderful challenge entry .. of course we all know who you are .. !! .. lol .
there's one other that IMHO you will be competing against for the blue ribbon .. but seeing your colour scheme is more on the red side .. and i have noticed that the colour scheme of an image often matches the ribbon they eventually receive .. who knows how this will play out .
i'll be giving you a 10 .. so the voters will decide who's image will get the blue .. :)

ps.. i'll be looking forward to reading your notes on this .. as your entries always have such a depth behind them .. :)
