My intention was to create an image that evoked the feeling of memory. I wanted it to look like there was smoke and fog with no substance.

I now understand the the swirling effect, created with the smudge tool with lots of work dodging the high areas and burning the shadowed ones, constitutes a violation of the advanced editing rules. I am always learning...
Please know that I agree with the disqualification.

The concept for this shot came when I stumbled upon some of my husband's old sports equipment. He was a basketball, football, and track coach for over 22 years. Last March he was diagnosed with M.S. and just this past month realized that coaching was no longer an option when he lost most of the vision in his right eye after a bout with the flu. His vision will come back, we hope, if he takes the time to rest and heal. Life is so fleeting, and I was trying to evoke that feeling of memory, of longing, for a time gone by. It all can change so quickly. I wanted to create that feeling, that a gust of wind could blow it all away.

By the way, I wish I had a football in this image, too. Tim was the quarterback of our high school football team when he and I started dating. I did not intend to dishonor football, I just didn't have a football handy.

That's too bad, the AE rules can be bit confusing. I recall this image as a favorite of mine. I believe I mentioned what I felt was to much effect over the tennis shoe. I would have liked to have seen a football in there too. Good shot though. I also liked your pooch in the Humorous challenge. The great thing here at DPC is there's always another challenge. ;-)
