 I think this is a strong photo but may not have enough despair. I found little in the way of true despair in the archives.

These eyes are full of “mal de vivre” - sickness of living and in the same time with a glimmer of hope. There is also resentment and acceptance. Despair comes sometimes in this combination until an angel’s wing touches the man’s heart! The image of moments in life. Contained despair.

This image is absolutely incredible! I love so much about it I don't know where to begin. I love that you almost shot it like a mug shot. I love that his eyes are glassy and the look in them tells a sad story. I think in this image is amazing in every aspect for this challenge and as a documentation sign of our times.

Oh... I see intense despair in those eyes filling up with tears. My empathy makes me feel teary just looking into that soulful face!

This is fabulous, it conveys emotion, fantastic lighting and black and white, just wish it had been cropped more to his face, as it is an outstanding face
