It's because of working within this community for a decade and a half that I'm able to appreciate the subtle, ethereal quality of this image.
I've been in that laundromat, that office, that room where I will sit, with nothing else other than the air in the room 'til the moment ends and I join life as it continues down its path.
This scored better than I expected which says something about how even the community has evolved with time and experience.
Congrats on a fine finish and again, lovely image. Thank you. |

Thanks :-) I went through a journey that led me to appreciate this style that started by asking "what was the photographer trying to evoke with the editing choices?", and eventually I asked this question so much that it became a core element of my style. This isn't to say there's any great depth in my images by any means, but usually I have something that I want to communicate indirectly. Here, for example, the subject is reading a book and the focus and texture is meant to contrast the background noise to his complete focus on the novel. Usually, lighting, focus and textures are used in various combinations for some kind of purpose.
Anyway, I have a special appreciation of voters' evolving perception of style, and encourage you down the route whatever the outcome may be!

Keeps my attention. My eyes move around, yet there's a stillness present. Love everything about this. |

This is a great composition in a difficult location and a great character shot. Love the angle, love the subject and the choice of black and white. But I absolutely hate the filter used... I'm sorry. I'm not the most old-skool here but it just doesn't look real or sincere. If a film look is desired less is more for sure. The whole image is a little over-cooked in that sense. But man am I jealous of the shot itself. I'd love to see it revisited with a different edit. Not necessarily much more different, just more natural.
EDIT Revisiting this... I've never liked in a place where the laundromat is part of daily life, but I have used one from time to time and if sitting there alone waiting for the cycle to finish is anything like waiting in a doctor's surgery or similar then I actually do kind of get that some may get a kind of peaceful stillness in waiting, especially as it's a regular chore. I'l going to judge this based on the photo itself so I'm bumping up my score as per my previous comment. |

I love this. Normally I hate tilts, but somehow this adds to the tension of this person in the dark corner, watching the whirling machines. Masterful edit. |
