The background doesn't help this at all. Would have been much better with a tight crop on the CD

Not that appealing - sorry. It's like you just went ahead and took a picture of a broken object, without thinking about lighting, composition, color, etc...

I don't see how the fuji CDR, pshop and the calendar relate. It also seems a little dark and has a snapshot qulity to it, the background is distracting.

Lighting is very flat and dull. Perhaps a run of USM at 35%, 60 and 1 might help some. The calendar background? I don't get that.
