Might need a bit more depth of field to make a strong impact with this shot...it took a second look to realise that it was a dog in the background.

mmm... bones.

I think would be better if you used priority 8 or higher, the dog is hard to see!

I love the shallow DOF here, the composition is excellent. I'm not to sure about the despair in this image but the quality of the photo pushes that doubt up a notch or two.

Great depth of field. Wonderful idea.

Interesting idea, but i think the dog is just a little *too* out of focus, i almost didn't see him. The sepia seems to go well with this, and the bone is nice and sharp. overall a pretty good shot.

All the doggy bones should be in focus

I almost missed the message here because I can barely make out the dog in the background

I think that's a dog in a cage behind the bones? If so, the dog is way to blurry and doesn't convey despair (because you can't see him). If that's not a dog in the background then I'm totally lost with this one.

Being a dog lover, I'm particularly fond of this image. It's well executed and fits the challenge well without being morbidly depressing. Excellent sharpness on the treats and creative use of dof with the dog. I hope the puppy got to eat the props when you were done... 9

2/26 - Had to come back and change this to a 10... One of my three favorties this week.

You could wonderfully show the sadness of the dog by having it blured in the background and the bones look so juicy! Great work, 9 from me

Would have liked for the dog to be a bit more discernable as such. And I\'m not sure if this is despair so much as longing, hunger, etc...

This could have done with just a touch more depth of field, so that one could see the expression in the dog's eyes. This way it is quite difficult to identify the dog at all. Good idea though, and good colour usage.

Cool idea! If only the dog (?) were just a bit more clear . . .
