I had so much fun creating this. I saw the bike on a studio website, and rented the studio for the shoot - a first for me, since I already have my own (if tiny) studio.
My friend Eve told me her son, Elan Garfias, would be interested in modeling, so I contacted him and explained the concept, and asked if he had a female friend who'd be up for the challenge. And he did: Camille Gibney!
And then it was playtime! The bike was non-functional (which is why the pedals aren't at the same level), had flat tires, and weighed a ton. We had to create the illusion that they were biking at a high speed while in fact, standing still. Elan kept the bike balanced (you can see his right foot on the ground and not on the pedal), so that Camille could "pedal furiously". I wanted a big contrast between them. Which is why he's calmly sitting up, sipping his coffee (a small technical peeve is that the saucer he's holding in his left hand isn't visible in this take, and I couldn't replace it because it's not an extended challenge), while she's tucked in with hair flying. A real trooper, Camille tossed her hair several dozen times. The final touch was to apply motion blur to the floor.
An odd bit of back history: Eve and I met as theater actors many, many, many years ago, and did a play together where we both played nuns. Camille is currently in a production of the Sound of Music, where she plays...a nun. Elan has never played a nun. |

I was one of your tens, Johanna.
Well worth an eleven from me, but... alas.

this is SO much fun Johanna ..
so creative and i loved reading your backstory ..
i'm sure both your models will be over the moon when they see this ..
some hard task masters re the voting .. i think often they miss the point .. being too focused on the things they dont like rather than the awesomeness of the entire 'production' ..lol .. but great that many ppl really loved this ..
many congrats on the ribbon .. this is epic . ! .. :) |

A studio setup to simulate panning. Not sure how you blurred the bottom, hoping that it is legal with standard editing. My biggest nitpick is the tires that appear to be flat with the editing technique. An 8 from me. A tanguera entry? If it is, then the editing is definitely legal. |
