I didn't look at the previous challenge but apparently this is a copy of one of the top winners. Completely unintended. I probably would have entered it anyway, and here's why.
This is a multi-part story which I will keep as brief as possible.
Part 1: I create postcards from photos and send them to relatives and friends - many postcards (upwards of 40 a month). One friend is a special needs adult whose most recent request was for a picture of potatoes. I obligingly took  , looked up a bunch of silly potato jokes to write for a message, and sent it. When I did, I noticed that there were lots of sweet potato jokes - I yam so a-peel-ing and such; so I had it in mind to do a second card in a few weeks.
Then I spotted this challenge and thought, "What the heck. I'll kill the proverbial two birds" . . . or spuds, as the case may be.
Part 2: So I bought a couple of oddly shaped sweet potatoes, took pictures of them, and sent them to my granddaughter (12) for ideas. "Use that old canvas I painted that's up on my dresser for the background, put them on rocks like seals, put them on blue paper for water." Good enough. I decided on a blue shirt with a towel under it for ripples and a radish to finish off the balancing act bit, and voila.
I knew the idea wasn't original - kind of knew they had to be seals (or slugs or something) when I bought them - and I was sure I'd seen the idea before, probably more than once. But I didn't look back at the previous DPC challenge for ideas . . . this time :) |
