Either side has a good perspective from the banks. Though the east side is much closer to the center span and is more dramatic. There is a bike / pedestrian path across the bridge with a couple of resting spots where you can stop and enjoy the river. Free parking on either side.

I recall many drives across the old Tappan Zee when I was a kid, but I don't live there anymore and haven't been across this new one. I'll be about 10 miles from it next week for work. Is there a good perspective from the banks? Although it appears there may be a ped/bike lane on this new bridge to get out on it. Maybe worth a short drive if I have the time.
