Critique Club critique by Tim Jensen

The first thing that jumped out at me was the blue refractions that distract from an otherwise good image. I am assumming this was caused by the spot filter which I know nothing about. I'm guessing that it wasn't even needed especially if you are getting odd effects like that. I like that blue color I just think it could have been used more effectively.

I like the composition including the cropping quite a bit. I would have liked to see the golf balls arranged a little more evenly amd symmetrical. It is a small thing but I think it is important especially for stock photography where things need to be pretty perfect. The lighting appears to be a little too low, physically. Raising it up would help give a little more definition to the background balls. I might have experimented with a secondary light source of another color such as blue set at a very low illuminocity to slightly fill in the shadow areas with some subtle color.

The narrow DOF is pretty good, however I would have preferred seeing the entire front three balls in sharp focus. There still would have been plenty of effective blurring for the rest of the balls. If you meant to have the entire focus on the front middle ball than I think you should have position it even closer to the camera relative to the other balls. More of a V shape.

The color is good as is the clarity and it meets the challenge very well. It is a pretty interesting image but it just needs a little more work in regards to lighting, DOF, and arrangement to make it look like true stock photo quality. Nice job.

More of an advertising image. You're not supposed to have a brand name in a stock photo.

I like the bluish lighting and the dramatic shadows.

The blue flares are not helping anything on this picture. I think this one has a lot of potential, but the extremely shallow DOF is not conducive to this type of picture. It would be a killer advertisement picture, if you could've pulled it off just a little better

You have obviously put a lot of effort into this picture. It is a set up shot so you were in control of the results. I ask some questions, why are the balls placed as they are? Why did you make the DOF so shallow? What does the blue light add to your picture? Do you like the flash back on the left and the right balls? If you intended for these things to be a part of the picture, you did a great job, if not, just think about them next time. 5

Nice color and lighting. I wonder about the brand name. Why is there a double T on the right ball?

My only comment is that you probably wouldn't see a brand name in stock photos. Nice picture, though.

ooo nice use of shallow dof... trickey... or is that a blue filter? :o) good contrast and brightness.. just needs the left and right balls adjusted for a pure symetrical look

This one's eye catching. I think a stock photograpy place would buy it.
(If I am correct in what I think stock photography is) Good photo

I love the blue glow, the center ball is perfectly in focus and that is ver good use of DOF.

I could see this as an ad in a magazine. The blue reflections really enhance the whiteness of the highlights.

I think this is a great advertisement photo and it's very well executes also. The brand name showing on the golf balls would likely create issues with it being used as stock photography. - setzler

The flash is a bit distracting in this photo, but otherwise, it looks great.

Focus is almost too shallow, but the lighting is effective and the fading lines are, too.

Actually, I like the focus. Nice shot.
