 This is the wings of a spotted lantern fly on a pink flower. It is a threat to ecosystems and causes extensive damage to crops and certain trees. It is advised that they be exterminated if you see them. I found a soapy insecticide spray is very effective in eliminating them. They are so fast it is almost impossible to swat them. They are beautiful to look at though!

I thought this was a lantern fly when I saw it. Beautiful bugs but exactly as you wrote a threat to crops and trees as well as the huge amounts of them on our horizon.
