 My attempt to replicate Bod's March, 2003, blue winning entry in the Kitchen Art challenge. My toaster looked a lot like the one he used, so I thought I'd give it a whirl!

As with most imitations, mine isn't nearly as good as his, but it was fun to try it. Like he did, I used a blue light above the subject to add a blue hue.

Didn't get time to comment on this during the challenge. Was chuffed when I saw it in there though : )

Ed has nailed the difference between this and mine in his comment ... the blue tube light. I owe 2 of my ribbons to that baby!

I had already submitted when i saw this old winner..i have the same camera so i shold have treid it instead of trying to compete with a dLSR!

I beleieve bod used a blue flourescent tube to light his original, and i think this sufferes in comparison mainly because of the blue part of the light. The important thing about that, for me, was the balance of the internal and external light in the shot, and the use of a tube light meant that he was able to get those elongated reflections in the surface of the toaster, which is unfortunately a missing element from this shot: and its remarkable the impact that small a detail makes.
