The human body is the perfect machine...and it doesn't require any electronics! I thought a human leg would be a good representation of a non-electrically powered "machine." I did a LOT of burning to make this picture work. I added a "sepia-like" filter to give it a surreal look. I also thought a non-complete border ("pop out" picture) would mix up the endless number of "complete" borders (we all need a change once in a while). Knowing this digital photography crowd, I'm sure I'll get at least 100 "hate" comments about the border...oh well, you can't please everyone!

I agree, like this image but cannot understand why that foot had to be in between frame and photo?

Great idea...I like the way the leg goes on top of the border. The calf muscle appears photoshopped. Lighting is cool.

The calf is pixelated, but great idea! Keep up the creativeness.

Interesting intrepretation of the challenge, and a nice composition. I like the use of negative space here. Having the leg on tip toes really makes the shot and illustrates the point. Good job.

A picture whose subject is perfectly presented. Excellent work.

I love how the leg breaks out of the border. The composition is also great, it's like the ground is lighting up where the person steps. :)

interesting framing. nice lighting. but doesn't the human body make use of electricity to coordinate its parts? :)

great interpretation. edges look a little hard (looks like you essentially cut the background out from around the calf). also, not sure i like the leg overlap of the borders. i think this is a great idea, love the detail around the shoe and the idea to isolate the leg - just a couple of things that keep it from that 'perfect' level. good work.

Very sweet, in the main. I am not 100% sure of using the foot as an example of "mechanical", which I take to be non-organic, but of course the foot is a system of levers. Anyway maybe the shoe's your machine? Whatever... My problem here is I really like the softness of the lighting on foot and step, but can't stand the very unnatural-looiing cutout on the claf, and I think overlaying the border is gimmicky...
