I personally dont know any women who read playgirl or that are into that "erotic" type stuff, but I do know some gay men who are. I think what an avg. woman wants to see is something more subtle. Can you get a mans personality to come through in a photo so strong that it will attract you to it? Those are the photos I like. I understand how this would be hard because I am a hetero female who would rather look at an erotic picture of a woman than of a man because it becomes cheesey. Men are not suppose to be concerned about their looks and when they do it becomes a turn off for me. I know this is your type of stuff but I think this type of stuff will appeal more to the gay audience. I wouldnt worry about which audience it is appealing to though because your stuff is great and it will surely find an audience.
But really, what do i know anyways. Just my thoughts.
Edit: by the way I enjoyed reading your post, you make some fine points.

its a big question/challenge/confusion of mine. How to reflect the erotica of a man without having him look gay? Men do not outwardly express their emotional landscapes in every day society or even outside the boundaries of a little box, labeled "denial", stored in a dank attic at the top of their heads. Now, I have met a sensual erotic man or two who was not gay ...they do exist. But how to convey that without making them LOOK gay to the average man? I think men will always think other men look gay..no matter what. So then I wonder..what do "women" want to see? Our media holds nothing for women regarding this...outside of playgirl...which is not all that erotic really. How to portray the erotic male....hmmmmm..... |
