lisen when u enter a challenge like this one you shoul in my opinion not put on display thinks that people see evey day in usual posetions that well don't express anything that do not surprize the eay that in my opinion are not right for this kind of a chalenge.Second when u make a photo not matter what the subject the center piece shoul be all the time clear(unlees you use a special efect)hoever this pic in shoul be clear perfectly clear i think you used a clouse up but forgot to use macro if used macro this pic would of been corect because I know this tipe of camara,so next time you plan to submit don't hurry and be as creative as the rules let you. |

Some kinds questions you may want to think about for your next challenge: What about your intended submission is interesting to you? Are you capturing it? What makes you want to share the picture? What do you want your viewing audience to take from your picture? In other words, you may be technically correct in the theme of your submission, but you have to figure out the "why" of what your presenting. Currently, this is a slightly out-of-focus mechanical pen on a wooden surface. Is it in and of itself interesting to you? |

I think you have a potentially good subject here. It fits the challenge well. Your focus definitely needs to be sharper. Perhaps you're trying to get too close, especially if you don't have manual focus or a macro setting. Lighting seems kind of harsh, possibly due to using built in flash? Try diffusing it or use other light sources(there are lots of cheap, homemade, or makeshift possibilities). Also it appears kind of weak compositionally. Try different perspectives or angles, using compositional guides such as diagonals, leading lines or the rule of thirds (there are tutorials on the site about these type of things). This background may work well with these other points touched upon, it looks like there is some nice texture to the wood grain, or you could try a black cloth or other simple, plain contrasting things. |

Not in focus, but a good attempt. :) |

it's a shame the focus is on the table and not on the pencil... |

Sorry but this is just too basic. The mechanical pensil is not a bad idea, but maybe you should have used it in a different manner, made a more complex image that intrigues the viewer rather than just showing a picture of an every day thing. Make the viewer notice certain aspects of the pensil (like the "mechanics" of it). |

Very blurry. You may have gotten too close to the subject for proper focus with your camera. |

horrible. it would be much better if you had had focus in the picture. |

Focus way too soft, lighting way too harsh, background overpowering |

I'm sorry but this is pretty bad - out of focus, compositionally awkward, blown highlights. Seems like you've gone a bit closer to the pen than your lens will allow. Try turning the pen a little so it's coming towards the viewer and pick a point of it to focus on. |

I understand the "mechanical" part - but this is still a "photography" challenge is it not? |

Come on... it's not even in focus! Are you really trying? |

Meets the challenge, but the focus appears off. |

I like the color combination. The pencil could be sharper, though. |

Even if it was in focus, I have to say, there are more interesting ways to photograph a pencil. Surely you could experiment with different angles, different lighting, etc? |

I'm a writer.. Even though this isnt my cup of tea.. The colors, out of focus, un centered.. I'll still give it a score. Cause a pen to me is the best friend anyone could have with them at all times. |

I have to tell you that I wish you had gotten a little more daring with this picture. I too was thinking about doing a mechanical pencil but the only way to really make it work would be to do something exciting. Leaving it flat on the table completely horizontal is a little boring in my humble opinion. Also the focus missed the pencil!
Good work but get more creative! |

I'm afraid it's quite out of focus, and lacks interest... :( |
