Great expression on the child's face -- almost Rockwellian -- a ten.

Nice capture of a special moment. The red cheeks and look on the face of the girl is very pleasant. The background with the lights falling outside the zone of focus works really well. Would have been a good one for the bokeh challenge, altough the bokeh is not of such a high quality in this particular photo.
I see that the people in the foreground were very dark. There is an obvious glow of sloppy dodging. There are better ways to bring out the shadows (the technique mentioned in the tutorials or Fred Mirand SR Pro) and you can use the history brush to apply that locally.

Focus is too soft, but I like the background and color.

Nice bokeh (I love using that word : D) A few things I would've like to seen differently though: I would've like to see the full outline of the girl, more of a head on approach to it. The look on her face and the rosy cheeks are outstanding, good work. There seems to be an awkward glow around all the people. Also, I'd like to see a little more room between the parent and the edge of the frame, though it depends on how you took the picture, and it isn't really obvious what they're doing! Maybe including the ice skates in the frame so its clear what you're talking about in your title. All in all thoug, an above average image. Undoubtedly candid, and a marvelous expression.

This looks like one of those shots that one so wants to save but may be unsaveable... You have an obviously very precious moment captured. I would try and work the shot too. However, you have a glowing artifact around most of the people. This leads me to believe that you tried to brighten the dark areas without blowing out the light areas. I know because I get this glowing artifact when I try to do this with some shots. Wish I knew how to avoid it... The background also looks like you tried to impose an artificially shallow DOF on the shot to isolate the main subjects. Normally I would say the shot is too busy but that doesn't feel like the case with this shot. You have a scene that is busy and looks like it should be! Nice attempt. Please don't think I'm being harsh. If I didn't see potential, I wouldn't have bothered typing!

Good job of getting that special moment of encouragement. Love the rosey cheeked expression!

I love the expression on the child face, but it look a little bit out of focus...

A little bit blurry, but nice layout.
