Wow, I'm surprised this one didn't do better. I think people must have voted based on it being illegal. I didn't but it's clear a lot of people did.

Anyway good job, and congrats on it not being DQ'd. I think if you would have left off the border you would have been MUCH higher in the ranking.

In this image, the border looks like it's encroaching on the image. This may be the photo that has been discussed for disqualification. I don't think it should be, but you are certainly pushing the limits. the border does add to the nostalgic feel of the image, which is well lighted and well composed, but not significantly. I guess it would depend on the target audience. Remember that with this group, it would seem, most DPC members prefer good photos to good post-photo work. As for the photo itself, I really do love the light and shadows, and you captured a very nice candid moment with this lovely child. The sparkle in the eye is just right and needed. I would like to see whiter whites and darker darks, but I'm kinda weird that way. I love this shot.

Great photo but looks like you broke the rules.

this is clearly a high quality photo done by someone who knows something about using a camera. technically there isn't much to complain about here, but ultimately do i find this a compelling, original photo? no (although i'd love to know how this was done), maybe because the portrait is greater than the eggs. yes, you use eggs, but they aren't relevant to your photo (the eggs without the boy would make no sense, the boy with out the eggs would do just fine).

Wow! Very crafty. It would be better if the eggs didn't give the impression that the shot is off centered to the right. 8

Great concept but the border distracts from the picture, I keep wanting to see more of the surrounding area. Also, would have liked that right egg in the frame. Great camera work otherwise!

Lovely portrait. I am guessing that you had a picture of the child and placed the eggs in front with the foliage to make the picture appear too have been taken "Live". Great idea. Very effective

Tara, is this yours? I am just guessing. I hope you don't get disqualified. This is such a cute shot. I think I notice something else that might not be legal. The painting of the eggs. We are not supposed to do any touch up painting to the photos. It is hard to understand all the rules and confusing. I have been here for a year and have gone through it. so don't feel bad.

I like this photo very much. The border seems to be legal as mentioned and the border really does this photo justice. I love the way ou have the photo in black and white and the eggs are blue, very good work!

this is a great portrait. My personal taste doesn't care for the blue on the eggs though... I'm not really sure how to make that stronger... - setzler

I like the picture, but think the border weakens the image

I love this photograph even though I can't quite figure out how it has been taken. The lad has got a lovely expression on his face which almost makes the photograph as far as I am concerned. Very nice.

Hmm, here's that "border" again. I'd like to know if this is legal or not. It's really good, don't get me wrong, but it goes beyond what I've seen in these challenges. It would be great for a "Retouch" or "Artistic" challenge however.

I love this, its soooo cute! Not sure how you are getting away with the border effect, but it really is lovely!

Nice Photo but I really don't think this boarder is appropriate for challenge submissions. Very nice and cute photo though. Good Luck!

This is a really nice shot. I'm very interested in how you did this one. The little child is so full of personality. I'm giving you a 10 on this one. I can't see one thing wrong with it but I'm far from an expert.

How were you able to get the vignette effect within the rules?
