A shot of the NL which look (vaguely) like a bird. Some tweaking in PS, incl: curvers, contrast/lightness, hue/sat, gausian blur, USM and resize.
I expect a DQ req in the first minutes of voting :), but this is real.
I orginally had the title something like: The Phoenix Returns or even better The Phoenix Returns from Outer Space but couldn't find any such movie in IMDB so chose to go the safe way.

I have never seen the NL you see. :(

Well, just come over for a visit :)
Re: the pattern. I just noticed it in postproduction when reviewing images. This was a long exposure and the NL are everchanging, so this was just pure luck.
One of my plans for next few days is to go over my recent NL shoots and try to find a nice sequence which illustrates the "everchangingness" of the NL and how they "migrate" across the sky.
Keep an eye on my portfolio.

ps:
lots more NL at my smugmug place

Great Photo, shame that it did so poor in the voting.
I don't think that there are many better ways to put the concept of an actual Phoenix (as a bird) into a photograph without excessive PS. Nice capture. When you shoot the NL, can you see this kind of patterns with your own eyes or does it only materialize after a long exposure?

Great shot of the Northern Lights, it really does give the illusion of a Phoenix.

Can't see anything. Too dark, too blurry.

What an interesting capture of the aurora borealis. A movie from the gods. :)

A bit dark and abstract. Lensflares (dots?) distracting.
