Hi Terry

Sure like the sharpnes of the basket and the color and the scratches that are on it. . I like the color of whiteness of the eggs too, but can't figure out looking at it - did you intentionaly want this much of softness on the eggs?

Okay - I get it now. I didn't read any of your info at first - like to get my own look first - great idea! By the low scores, I guess everyone thought the same way I originally did, right?

It is a great shot and a very good imaginative idea, certainly different from anything else that I've seen with eggs so far. The short depth of field works well here as does adding the sharpening to get the grainy look.

Is there anything you could have done to reduce some of the shadowing under the top layers of eggs, front and back? I was thinking along the lines of a few real tiny pocket type flashlights? You don't have any shadows created by the basket that I can see. . .

You know, TerryG, it was obvious that most of the voters weren't intrigued by your photo. All they saw was that the eggs were out of focus and they wanted to move on to the next picture. It had no visual impact for them and they voted you down. They didn't know what you were trying to do, and neither did I. . . until you told me.

I've seen some of your work, and all I can say, is keep you chin up and keep plugging along, artistic quality is something that some viewers will never get to see in a lifetime, at least you know what it looks like!
Regards,
Ed

Not that I thought that this was a great photo by any means, but I am very disappointed to see such low scores(six 1's!). This photo was done with a short DOF intentionally! I wanted to focus on the basket. Yet every comment indicates that the focus was supposed to be on the eggs. Why? There is such a thing as artistic quality to a photo, I think some of the viewers need to learn about that.

If its supposed to be out of focus, I don't get it.

Very sharp focus on the egg basket (was that the point of this shot?). Eggs are soft blurs. 5 Swash

the composition is good and well balanced and although the rim of the basket in in focus I think having the eggs in focus would help your photo. The eggs are bluuy on my monitor.

excellent shot... I love the shallow depth of field that makes the eggs the secondary subject of the photo.. nice work :) - setzler

You need to get this image into focus and it would be very intresting.

Very good lighting and I like the idea of focusing on the basket instead of the eggs.

Nice idea, but I think I would've prefered the focus on the eggs rather than the basket. I accept that the subject of your shot is the basket but the topic for the challenge is the eggs!

Why focus on the basket when the theme is eggs?

Are the eggs or the basket the focus? Focusing on the closest egg and letting the rest blur out may have given more impact to me.
